Grain quality analysis with EVONIR

Harvesting traditionally provides yield and moisture information, but grain quality often remains unknown until post-harvest laboratory analysis.

By installing EVONIR sensor on combine harvesters, grain composition can be measured continuously during harvesting, transforming the process into a real-time quality monitoring operation.

Why install NIR on a combine harvester?

Why install NIR on a combine harvester?

When grain composition is not analyzed on board during harvesting, variability in parameters such as protein, moisture, and other quality indicators becomes visible only after storage, when operational adjustments can no longer be made in real time.

EVONIR allows operators to:

  • Real-time grain quality measurement
  • Immediate logistics decisions
  • Batch segregation during harvesting
  • Traceability and documentation for agronomic decision

EVONIR

EVONIR

EVONIR is an on-board NIR analyzer installed along the grain flow of the combine harvester to continuously scan harvested grain during operation.

The sensor measures key grain parameters such as moisture, protein and other compositional values directly in real time. Data are transmitted via ISOBUS or CAN J1939 and displayed on the in-cab terminal for continuous monitoring during harvesting.

Key advantages for combine harvester

  • Compatible with all combine brands, for both OEM installation and aftermarket retrofit.
  • Key grains analyzed: corn grain, wheat grain, barley grain, soybean grain, oat grain, rapeseed grain.
  • Key parameters analyzed: moisture, starch, crude protein, fiber ADF, fiber NDF, ash, crude fat.

Real-time grain value monitoring

Maximize the value of every harvested bushel by monitoring grain composition such as protein, starch or oil directly during harvesting.

EVONIR provides analysis and displays the data on the machine’s Virtual Terminal via ISOBUS connection, allowing operators to immediately understand crop quality. With instant visibility of grain constituents, producers can manage storage and marketing decisions more effectively and capture potential premiums linked to quality parameters like protein, starch or oil.

Protein content directly impacts grain price

Protein content directly impacts grain price

In European wheat markets, protein content is one of the main factors determining grain price.

Elevators and traders commonly apply premiums of around €3–€6 per tonne for each additional 1% of protein, while lower protein levels may lead to price discounts. Depending on yield, this difference can translate into €30–€60 per hectare in crop value.

Measuring protein during harvest helps producers immediately understand grain quality and manage storage and marketing decisions to preserve high-value batches.

EVONIR on plot combine harvesters

EVONIR can also be installed on plot combine harvesters used in breeding trials and agronomic research. By measuring grain parameters such as protein, moisture, starch or oil directly during harvesting, EVONIR provides immediate and objective data for each plot.

This allows researchers and seed companies to evaluate variety performance and crop quality in real time, significantly accelerating the analysis of field trials and selection processes.

Optimize nitrogen management with protein data at harvest

Optimize nitrogen management with protein data at harvest

Nitrogen management is one of the most critical challenges in modern crop production, as it directly affects both yield and grain quality. By installing NIR analyzers on combine harvesters, farmers can measure grain protein content in real time during harvesting, gaining valuable insight into how efficiently crops have used applied nitrogen. These data allow the creation of protein maps across the field, helping identify variability and develop more precise nitrogen fertilization strategies for the following seasons.
